IF :: Expire

ex·pire
Pronunciation: \ik-ˈspī(-ə)r, oftenest for vi 3 and vt 2 ek-\
Function: verb
1 : to breathe one's last breath : die
2 : to come to an end
3 : to emit the breath
I love the Discovery Channel and just watched the first episode in the new Life series. While I knew that mother Octopuses (Octopi?) lay a bazillion eggs that hang down in little tear-drop shapes like bunches of grapes, I had no idea that their last act of motherly devotion after incubating and laying watch over their eggs is to breathe upon them, which helps induce the hatching–and then she dies. She expires, and then expires.

I am glad not to be an octopus!
The colors are perfect for this gloomy, but loving tale. Wonderful work.
By the way, when I first saw this I was hoping that it might be about the Kraken!
Wonderful illustration and great use of color! Enjoyed it even more after reading your story. It is sad. Good take on the word. :D
